REFORM OF THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW BY LAW 21/2014 OF 4 NOVEMBER 2014
The last review of legislative developments in Spain was published in issue 234 of RIDA, in October 2012. The present “News from Spain” article will be devoted exclusively to an analysis of Law 21/2014 of 4 November 2014 which substantially amended the Intellectual Property Law (“IPL”) and the Civil Procedure Law (“CPL”). 1 Most of the provisions of Law 21/2014 came into force on 1 January 2015. Through it, two European directives were implemented in Spanish law, namely Directive 2011/77/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 September 2011 amending Directive 2006/116/EC on the term of protection of copyright and certain related rights and Directive 2012/28/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2012 on certain permitted uses of orphan works.
